I promise I will write about more than just soap. But, having my own bodywork and consulting practice, and starting to delve into herbal creations, I use a lot of it-- washing all my massage table sheets, jars of concoctions, and my curly locks! And shampoo and conditioner are yet more home products that come wrapped in plastic and unhealthy ingredients.
I haven't found my own shampoo and conditioner DIY recipes that feel good for my hair and environment (and the clients that have to smell me as I'm working closely with them), but I have found a vegan company that uses plastic free packaging and clean ingredients that I've fallen in love with!
I'm sure there are others, but Meow Meow Tweet has taken my heart, so I haven't even bothered to look elsewhere. I love their shampoo and conditioner bars, as well as their deodorant (although I'm starting to make my own deodorant based on theirs along w/some of my own tweaks-more on that in another post).
The bars honestly feel better than any other shampoo and conditioner combinations that I've tried. And let me tell you, I've experimented with a LOT! For me, the conditioner bar is a necessary addition, not only because of my curls, but also because my water seems a bit hard. So, the minerals in hard water sticks to your hair, and then the soap bar (because it has no chelators or surfactants) sticks to the minerals on your hair, and leaves a residue. The conditioner bar takes care of this as it has a chelator. Apparently, you could just as well use a citric acid rinse instead of/along with the conditioner bar to demineralize. Thanks a bunch to the Meow Meow Tweet team for explaining all this to me.
